The rapper, songwriter and producer is set to drop the track on March 3rd
BTS member J-Hope is set to return with a brand new single titled “On The Street” and an accompanying music video on March 3rd. The track follows the songwriter, rapper and producer’s 2022 award-winning LP Jack In The Box. J-Hope surprised fans with the news on BTS’ official social media channels today.
According to a press release, “On The Street” was co-written by J-Hope and is a lo-fi, easy listening track with “a hopeful message and warmth that reminds listeners of his positive and bright energy.” It seems to hint at a return to the upbeat and chill-hop style of solo artistry he showcased in 2018 with his mixtape Hope World, a sharp contrast to the darker and grittier Jack In The Box.
Big Hit Music, BTS’ label, adds that the title and theme of the track centre around the word ‘street,’ “which can be interpreted as a place where many people’s everyday lives pass by—a metaphor for life.” The title and song also pay tribute to J-Hope’s roots as a street dancer before rising to fame with BTS, and his determination to move forward and walk with both his group and fans. The title also works as a shoutout to J-Hope’s freestyle dance series on YouTube, ‘Hope On The Street.’
The announcement of “On The Street” comes after Big Hit Music confirmed earlier today that the rapper has begun the process of his mandatory military service by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement. J-Hope also communicated with fans today via a livestream on Weverse, to discuss his upcoming enlistment and share a little bit about what the rest of the members of BTS are up to. J-Hope is the second member of the septet to announce his enlistment after Jin– the vocalist, producer and songwriter began his mandatory service in December 2022.
In addition to the release of Jack In The Box, J-Hope’s activities since BTS announced their solo projects include a powerful and historic headlining set at Lollapalooza 2022, a documentary on Disney+Hotstar titled j-hope IN THE BOX about creating the album, signing on as house ambassador for Louis Vuitton and much more.
