The rapper-producer will be performing an hour-long set on July 31st, becoming the first South Korean artist to headline a main stage of a major U.S. festival
Lollapalooza has announced BTS’ rapper-songwriter J-hope as the latest artist to headline this year’s festival in Chicago. This makes the BTS member the first Korean artist to headline a main stage of a major U.S. music festival. He joins Metallica, Dua Lipa, and Green Day, who have been previously announced as headliners for this year’s edition. Other headlining artists performing on July 31st include Jane’s Addiction, The Kid Laroi and Charli XCX.
J-Hope has been allotted an hour-long solo stage on the evening of July 31st, which is a Sunday. While no details regarding his set have been announced yet, fans can expect the rapper to perform his solo hits such as “Chicken Noodle Soup” along with “Just Dance” and “Outro: Ego” from the group’s official discography. Given the vibrancy and upbeat composition of his solo mixtape releases, tracks such as “Base Line” or “Airplane” might also be potential additions to the setlist.
In an Instagram post published a few minutes after the official announcement, J-Hope shared his excitement for the forthcoming festival appearance: “This is going to be my first performance at @lollapalooza,” the rapper wrote. “It’s a thrilling new challenge that I think will become a really memorable chapter in my musical history! I’m gonna give you guys a great show. Get ready to get crazyyyyyy!”
While J-Hope will be headling the festival on Sunday, fellow labelmates Tomorrow x Together will be making their U.S festival debut at Lollapalooza on Saturday, July 30th.
BTS’ highly anticipated anthology album Proof is also all set to release on June 10th. “The BTS anthology album that embodies the history of the group will be released as they begin a new chapter as an [act] that has been active for nine years, to look back on their past endeavors,” the group’s label BigHit Music revealed in a press statement. The three-CD album features songs from across the group’s discography, including three new tracks and demo versions of their previous releases.
