The documentary will premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea
BTS member RM straddles his identity as the BTS kingpin and as the ordinary Kim Namjoon in new solo documentary, RM: Right People, Wrong Place, which he announced on Tuesday.
The film traces his journey of self discovery while working on his second solo album Right Place, Wrong Person and chronicles the eight months leading up to RM’s military enlistment. (RM enlisted in December 2023 alongside BTS vocalists Jimin, Jung Kook, and V.) The documentary takes viewers to Seoul, Tokyo, and London where photos and music videos were captured for his sophomore album. Lee Seokjun, who has produced BTS rapper’s J-Hope’s music videos “Arson” and “More,” will direct.
Building on his 2022 debut album Indigo, his latest album Right People, Wrong Place is “psychedelia-tinged and soulful, its lyrics’ intense self-interrogation balanced by music that feels like an invite to further explorations,” Rolling Stone‘s review said.
RM’s documentary announcement follows a handful of visual projects his BTS bandmates have embarked on in recent months. Last month, BTS vocalist Jung Kook announced a documentary of his own Jung Kook: I Am Still, which dives into the pressure he faced when going solo, set to drop Sept. 18. Jung Kook and Jimin also star in the eight-part series Are You Sure?!, which premiered Aug. 8 on Disney +, as the two members take on adventures in New York, Jeju Island in South Korea, and Sapporo, Japan.
Megan Thee Stallion also announced a collaborative single “Neva Play” with RM on Sunday, which is set to release Sept. 6.
The documentary will premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. Although the premiere date has not been announced, the film festival will take place in South Korea from Oct. 2 to Oct. 11.
