BTS’ Suga Announces Solo World Tour

The songwriter, rapper and producer will be the first member of the group to do so

South Korean megastar Suga has surprised fans worldwide after announcing he will be embarking on a solo tour across the globe. The rapper, producer and songwriter will be the first member of BTS to do so.

According to a poster released across the band’s social media channels, the tour will begin on April 26th with a North American leg featuring cities like Belmont, Newark, Rosemont, Los Angeles and Oakland. Shows in Asia then follow with dates in Jakarta, Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul and Japan.

As of now not much information has been shared about the tour outside of its dates, but according to the poster, fans will finally get to see Suga perform live under his fiery alter-ego Agust D.

Suga first debuted as Agust D in 2016 with a self-titled mixtape and shocked the world with songwriting that saw him open up about his struggles with depression, anxiety, success, failure and poverty– at this point there weren’t many K-pop stars willing to bare their soul at such a level. The album has gone on to earn critical acclaim along with Agust D’s second mixtape D-2 (released in 2020) and its mega-hit lead single “Daechwita.” Suga generally does not perform as Agust D during BTS’ tours; the rapper has only performed as Agust D live twice– once in 2016 and again in 2021 during the group’s annual fan club concerts known as Musters.

The rapper has also released solo numbers via BTS albums and worked with various other artists under the name Suga, producing, writing and/or featuring on releases by Halsey, Epik High, Juice Wrld, Psy, IU and more. In 2021 he also produced a new version of Samsung’s signature ringtone, “Over The Horizon.”

Suga’s solo tour comes after BTS’ 2022 announcement that they will be taking time off as a group to focus on individual projects and will be releasing solo albums. J-Hope kicked off solo activities with the release of his first LP Jack in the Box, followed by Jin with the single “The Astronaut,” and Jung Kook with the single “Dreamers” for the FIFA World Cup. Finally, RM unveiled his LP Indigo while Jimin began 2023 with a collaboration with Big Bang’s Taeyang on the single “Vibe.” As of now, only Suga and V have yet to drop new music.

In addition to his plans for a tour and (fingers crossed) possibly new music, Suga’s recent solo activities include launching a brand new talk show on YouTube in December 2022 titled Suchwita, featuring deep conversations with various artists including bandmate RM, Big Bang’s Taeyang, Seventeen’s Hoshi and more. Suga was also announced as a brand ambassador for Valentino and the face of the Maison Valentino Essentials campaign in January 2023.
