The South Korean group also bagged the awards for Best Group, Best Choreography and Best K-pop
BTS made history yet again earlier today at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards by winning Best Pop–the first ever Asian act to do so. The South Korean septet won the award for their February release “ON,” a powerful anthem of self-empowerment and hope, from their fourth studio album Map of the Soul: 7.
Comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, BTS were nominated for VMAs for Best Pop, Best K-pop, Best Group and Best Choreography this year and bagged all four awards.
The group also took the stage at the VMAs to perform their brand new single “Dynamite” live for the very first time, dancing through the streets of New York City thanks to a massive virtual setup filmed in Seoul. Dressed in sharp Seventies-style suits, the septet showed off their smooth choreography and powerful stage presence. “Dynamite” is the group’s first English-language track.
BTS broke numerous records with the release of “Dynamite” on August 21st–the official music video became the biggest YouTube live premiere in the website’s history, raking in 3 million peak concurrent viewers. The video also holds the record for most views for a music video in 24 hours with 101.1 million views. “Dynamite” precedes the release of the group’s upcoming untitled album which is set to drop sometime in the last quarter of 2020. Locally, the track also broke a single week record for most ever streams by a song on Spotify India with over 2.4 million streams.
