When it comes to forging a path where creativity knows no bounds, Mumbai-based producer Zain Calcuttawala aka Bulli Bainbridge, the mastermind behind the Instagram series Indie Remixed, has pushed the envelope with one beat at a time. Through a series of ingenious remixes, Calcuttawala is reshaping the landscape of Indian independent music, paying homage to Indian indie artists while infusing it with his own unique flair.

What started as a humble Instagram Reel series has blossomed into something special. Over the course of mid-November to early February, Calcuttawala unleashed a sonic onslaught, dropping a different indie song remix every week, totaling a staggering 12 tracks. But this is just the beginning. With plans to release at least five of these remixes for streaming in the months ahead, Calcuttawala is poised to set the airwaves ablaze with his soundscapes.

The journey kicked off with the mesmerizing remix of “City Life” by Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle, a tantalizing glimpse into the sonic universe that Calcuttawala was about to unveil. And now, the next installment is a reimagining of “Runnin'” by the vocalist Shalmali Kholgade. Originally featured on Kholgade’s 2022 album 2XSideB, this track takes on a whole new dimension in Calcuttawala’s capable hands, transporting listeners to a chill-out space where time seems to stand still.

There are more sonic treasures in store, with three full remixes slated for release later this year. “Everybody Dances to Techno” by Dot., “September Embers” by Anoushka Maskey, and “Ruby” by Tejas are all set to receive the Bulli Bainbridge treatment, complete with lush orchestral arrangements that promise to elevate these already stellar tracks to new heights.

And when it comes to the artists Calcuttawala has remixed, the lineup reads like a who’s who of the indie music scene. From the dreamy melodies of Parekh & Singh to the soul-stirring vocals of Sid Sriram, Calcuttawala has left no stone unturned in his quest to reimagine the very fabric of Indian independent music. With each remix, he honors the original spirit of the song while injecting it with his own distinctive style, creating a sonic fusion that’s as exhilarating as it is mesmerizing.
