L.A. Band Casual Vice Are Wavy and Jumpy on New Song ‘Personality’

In a year like 2020 when most things slowed down, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kyle Krone sped things up with his new project Casual Vice. Co-founded by Australia-origin vocalist Brandon Hoogenboom in January last year, the duo found themselves with 40 songs written and recorded and apparently spending about 300 days in the studio.

It resulted in stellar, steady-handed EPs such as Summer Noir in August last year, Joie De Vivre earlier this year and acquainted with the night in April. Now, the bright-eyed, warmhearted indie rock duo are set to release their debut full-length album On The Exotic later this year. The first glimpse of the record arrives in the form of “Personality,” a shimmering, dancey song that dials up on optimism. Krone says about the track in a statement, “Musically speaking, this song is the sound I imagine in a post-pandemic reality, one full of possibilities and potential. The kind of world infused with a collective invigorated youthful optimism and enthusiasm, full of the benefits of seeing the world anew.”

Previously exploring all kinds of indie rock goodness, there’s a certain pop sound instilled in “Personality,” part of the nine-track On The Exotic. Hogenboom adds, “There’s a definite danceability to it. Summertime is creeping up and we’re excited to put this out when it has such a summery feel and everyone is so thirsty for fun, casual music.”
