Punjabi artists Chani Nattan, Inderpal Moga and AR Paisley pack a solid collaborative project on East To West EP, their joint EP via 91 North Records. It leads with the single and music video “Block Boys,” which opens the seven-track tape that draws from early Nineties and 2000s hip-hop.
Vancouver-based Nattan and Moga have been a powerful team in the past, most notably on the 2021 breakout single “Daku” and their 2023 EP Takeover with producer J-Statik. Toronto-based Paisley, for his part, recently made a surprise appearance on Sidhu Moose Wala’s posthumous song “Drippy” with beatsmith Mxrci in February this year. It went on to chart at number 9 on Canada’s Billboard Hot 100.
Nattan and Moga too have been scaling the charts, with “Facetime” appearing on Spotify Canada’s Vancouver Pulse Chart in May. That song too was out via 91 North Records, a joint venture between Warner Music India and Warner Music Canada.
The three artists say in a joint statement about the EP, “We feel nostalgic when we listen to music right now, the sound reminds us of when we were in middle school going to theme parks, playing basketball etc. We had a lot of relatable connections to music like the music that resonated with us most during our upbringings.”
East To West EP brings in songs like the synth-driven “Heater” produced by Jass G, plus their 2023 single “What’s Beef,” which marked the first collaboration between Nattan, Moga and Paisley. The press release adds that the EP ranges from up-tempo songs like “Dancer” informed by disco to the Punjabi wedding-ready romantic song “Mehndi.” The release adds, “The project changes pace on love song ‘All Eyez On You’ an intense cut that beautifully reflects on the feeling of being completely enamored by a single person that becomes the center of one’s world, despite the constant allure of the spotlight. Nattan, Moga and Paisley ride out the ups and downs of life’s relational tides, with their most introspective single to date ‘Seasons’ – an ode to the unpredictable nature of relationships that compare to ever-changing seasons.”
The trio are set to round out the summer with a performance at the U.K.’s R5B Festival on August 31.
