Charli XCX and Kesha Are ‘Party Girl Gods’ on Surprise ‘Spring Breakers’ Remix

Months before Charli XCX even released Brat, a video of a truck displaying the name “Kesha” on a chartreuse background went viral online. At the time, fans speculated that a collaboration with the “Tik Tok” pop star would come on the album. Brat arrived, and it wasn’t there. Brat and It’s the Same But There’s Three More Songs So It’s Not came out, and still nothing. And then came Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat on Friday, and no Kesha song was on the track list.

But now, the Kesha-Charli linkup is finally here. On Monday, Charli extended her Brat remix album to include “Spring Breakers” featuring Kesha on a perfectly fitting song for the pair of self-proclaimed “party girl gods.”

Unlike some other tracks on the Completely Different album, the new “Spring Breakers” remains sonically similar to the original. However, it replaces Charli’s verses about blowing up the Grammys to make space for Kesha’s lyrics, enhanced by an Animal-style autotune filter.

“Art is not a competition/Rating go up when the clothes come off/But a real bitch come when the dick goes up, like,” sings Kesha at the start of her verse. “Ooh, these bitches rip off/Wish they could be OG, they not/We going psycho, we going off.”

Throughout the verse, Kesha references her songs including the emotional “Praying,” and celebrates her newfound freedom after settling her decade-long lawsuit with Dr. Luke, before promising she’ll be the “Tik Tok bitch ’til the kingdom come.”

“Choke on my name when you suck on my dick,” she ends her verse.

The pair of musicians announced the single late on Sunday, sharing Brat-ty memes about their party girl reputations. Kesha reposted a screenshot of Charli calling a photo of her drinking topless in front of a sea of empty glasses and beer bottles, “brat.”

The new “Spring Breakers” remix comes just a few days after Charli released Brat and It’s Completely Different, which included reimagined versions of songs from the album, featuring artists such as Ariana Grande, Tinashe, the 1975, and Bon Iver. “Spring Breakers” is Kesha’s first release since “Joyride” in July.

Now, with the “Spring Breakers” remix, “Hello, Goodbye” is the only Brat-era track left without a reimagining. Fans speculate that Charli will bid farewell to the Brat era with a remix of that deluxe edition song.
