Chennai Music Platform Circle Of Love Set to Host Inaugural Festival This Week
DJs such as Nikhil Chinapa and Stalvart John join Chennai mainstays including pop artists Mali and JBabe, among others
After nearly two years of hard times for independent music in Chennai, a two-day music festival by platform Circle Of Love aims to bring the cheer back to the city.
Held on October 15th and 16th at Radio Room in Chennai, the Circle of Love Festival will host pop singer-songwriter Mali, longstanding DJ and music curator Nikhil Chinapa, disco, funk and electronic DJ-producer Stalvart John, seasoned turntablist DJ Skip, DJ-producer and vocalist Kayan aka Ambika Nayak, singer-producer JBabe aka Josh Fernandez and several more.
While Circle of Love previously produced a video series called Centre Stage last year, founder Sameer Sethi did hint at on-ground events and label releases in 2021. The other key figure in Circle of Love is veteran DJ Manny aka Manoj Mohan, who serves as curator for the two-day festival. Other artists performing across two stages are DJ-producer Henny aka Harshan Radhakrishnan, Booby aka Abhinav Krishnaswamy (both part of indie rockers The F16s, with Fernandez), Bread & Jam, Sharan Nichani, Sneha, Mitra Visvesh, comedian Aamer Peeran – who will host an open mic on the 16th – visual artist Black Fern and more.
Sethi said in his statement that the two-day event is their boutique festival. He adds, “Our aim is to put Chennai on the map as a destination for lovers of indie music, thus creating bridges between the artists and the audiences in the city and those elsewhere in the country.”
DJ Manny adds that they have eclectic mix of artists at the Circle of Love Festival. “The audience can enjoy the work of their favorite artists live, while also discovering new gems. It’s an exciting time for independent music and we are looking forward to presenting a refreshing lineup and format to the audience in Chennai and showcase fresh talent through this festival,” Manny said in his statement.
The two-day Circle of Love Festival is open to only those over 21 years of age, with assurances that “all personnel associated with the festival have been fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 and safety protocols are in place.”. Tickets will also be available at the venue, priced at Rs 2,000 per day for couples (which includes a Rs 1,000 cover charge) and Rs 1,000 per day for women (inclusive of Rs 500 cover charge).
