Bombay Bassment, Thaikkudam Bridge and more Set for Chennai’s Covelong Point Festival
The fourth edition of the surfing, music and yoga festival takes place this weekend
Chennai’s live music circuit took a hit after experiencing severe floods at the end of last year. Thankfully, it’s been slowly getting back on its feet, rain or shine. One annual fixture that’s reassuring fans is the Covelong Point Classic Surf, Music & Yoga Festival, which brings together surfers, musicians and meditation along the beach in Kovalam, Chennai this weekend.
Now in its fourth edition, the Covelong Point Festival, curated by music label EarthSync, hosts everything from high-energy electronica to folk fusion as well as acoustic singer-songwriters across three stages between August 26th and 28th. Top draws this year include Kerala fusion rock/metal band Thaikkudam Bridge, Mumbai hip-hop act Bombay Bassment, New Delhi electro-rockers FuzzCulture, pop singer Tanvi Shah (who provided the lyrics to A.R. Rahman’s hit song “Jai Ho”), folk act Oorka, Mumbai electro-swing duo Madboy/Mink, Bengaluru singer-songwriter Abhi Tambe and more.
Mauritian blues trio Tritonik, Israeli electronic music producer Bemet, Russian-born American singer-songwriter Natalia Karaseva are among the international acts brought down. Other artists on the lineup include Pune singer-songwriter Prateek Bhaduri, sitarist Imran Khan, Carnatic violinist duo Kalaimamani Dr. M Lalitha and Kalaimamani M Nandini and ”˜ethnotronic’ act Filter Coffee.
Tickets range from Rs 350 for a single entry (to catch a single performance) to Rs 1,000 for a full day pass and Rs 2,000 for a three-day season pass.
