Vocalist Nami Anand and producer Michael Timothy are also planning to release their debut EP later this year
In June last year, #1MinMusic became a talking (and creating) point for Indian independent artists. Several months later, the short video-friendly format of music-making is still propelling releases, the latest coming from Chennai pop duo SZN TWO. Their new music video for “Good Times” gets straight to the hooks and grooves, with a shimmering visual aesthetic.
Comprising producer Michael Timothy and vocalist Nami Anand, the duo say they were approached by filmmaker Sanjay Vishal from production house Dimensions Entertainment to collaborate on a project and immediately thought of “Good Times,” a buoyant tune that sums up SZN TWO’s pop sound. Timothy says, “We recorded and mixed the track in one day and shot the video another day.”
The duo says about converting the demo to fit the #1MinMusic format, “In today’s world of shorter attention spans its quite cool that 1 minute music videos have become a ‘thing’ but that being said, it is quite a challenge to narrate a story through a song within a minute. The same goes for visuals.”
The music video, shot and edited by Dimensions Entertainment and Miragescope, shows the duo racing away on virtual reality arcade games, posting new high scores and celebrating wins. With the track’s lyrics focusing on making life fun and taking joy in the little things, the duo says they wanted to make people dance and groove as well.
With a handful of singles out so far, SZN TWO are planning their debut EP up next, slated to release in March. “The EP will be a four-track pop-driven EP with a few touches of electronic genres like future bass infused in it. Each track on the EP serves a vibe and a half instantly and gets the listener to bop their head and dance,” the duo adds.
