Grey Shack vocalist Rohan Sen has moved on from lamenting how his band has been “playing in bars for drunk uncles and aunties,” to realizing that being part of a rock ”˜n roll group landed him his first international gig. The Chennai rock ”˜n roll band are playing their first international show next month at European Bike Week [EBW] in Faaker See, Austria, as part of the grand prize at the fourth edition of Harley Rock Riders Find Your Freedom band competition. Band frontman Sen mentions the band is still trying to work out more Europe shows while they’re in Austria. Says Sen, “There might be a friendly pub owner who’ll just say, ”˜I like you brown kids, why don’t you play at my pub?’”

With the band slated to play an hour-long at the bike and music festival, Sen says there will be a change in lineup for the Austria show, since bassist Conrad Simmons wasn’t able to get his passport issued in time to apply for a visa. Bengaluru rock band Solder’s bassist Samson Philip will be filling in for Simmons in Europe. In addition to their performance, Sen adds he’s looking forward to catch UK rock ”˜n roll band Temperance Movement at EBW as well.

Grey Shack will warm up for their Europe gig with a show in Bengaluru at B-Flat bar this week, performing from their debut album Step Outside, songs from their upcoming EP The Soundgarden Sessions. Says Sen, “It’s a pity we couldn’t do it [warm-up gig] in Chennai, but it’s great fun going back to B-Flat.” After they return from Austria, Grey Shack are slated to release their next single “She Bites,” the follow-up to “Country Song,” which launched in April. Says Sen, “The EP is a slow train running, because we’ve all been busy with other stuff. All that’s left is to record the vocals and mix and master the tracks.”

Grey Shack and Howard Pereira perform at B-Flat, Bengaluru on August 23rd, 2014. Event details here.
