Cigarettes After Sex Announce Double Mumbai Date
The American ambient pop band will make their way to the city this July
In 2017, American ambient pop band Cigarettes After Sex’s frontman Greg Gonzalez said in an interview with Rolling Stone India ahead of their India debut at Bacardi NH7 Weekender that “playing one show (in India) will definitely not be enough,” and it looks like the musician is a man of his word. Bengaluru live music venue The Humming Tree announced earlier today that Cigarettes After Sex will make their way to Mumbai to play two shows on July 23rd and 24th at the city’s Royal Opera House. The band revealed in a social media post that they are “excited to finally return to India.”
Vocalist-guitarist Gonzalez, keyboardist Phillip Tubbs, bassist Randy Miller and drummer Jacob Tomsky rose to fame in a tidal wave of word-of-mouth recommendations and social media applause in 2016 when “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby,” from their 2012 EP I., belatedly turned into an overnight sensation.
Cigarettes After Sex’s signature tone is dark, raw and dreamy – but not dreary. With deeply personal lyrics, androgynous vocals and cinematic instrumentals, their music skirts the line between imagination and reality, lending a rawness to the evoked mood that is brought on by the boomy beat of the drums, the haunting bass and the gentle rocking rhythm of the guitar and the immersive vocals. Whether its lost memories in the sand or those burned into the hippocampus, Cigarettes After Sex knows how to lead its audiences into a vision – you can decide which one in your head.
The band shows no signs of slowing down. Since the start of the new year, Cigarettes After Sex has performed in Spain, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania Ukraine, Germany, Russia and Indonesia.
