Dancer, actor and singer teams up with the Afrobeats star for a Nigerian jam with a smattering of Hindi words
Nigerian pop star CKay calls on Indian film industry starlet Nora Fatehi to turn singer on his latest song “It’s True,” off the Afrobeats star’s new album Emotions.
Released on Oct. 18, 2024, “It’s True” brings in an Indian flavor courtesy of Fatehi, who has been releasing songs like “Pepeta” in 2019 with Tanzanian artist Rayvanny, “Dirty Little Secret” in 2022 and more.
CKay, for his part, has put out Emotions after his 2022 album Sad Romance and his breakout record CKay The First from 2019, which featured “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah).” Emotions – released via Warner Music Africa – also features the likes of rapper Ty Dolla $ign on “Dorime,” Lagos-based band The Cavemen on “Addicted” and Nigerian hip-hop artist Olamide on “Wahala” and “Vanity.”
Fatehi’s appearance on “It’s True” marks CKay’s intent to reach out to his Indian audiences, who were all over “Love Nwantiti” when it came out and became a viral social media trend. While there’s plenty of Nigerian English on the song that even Fatehi tries her hand at, a few Hindi lyrics – even if slightly cliched – match the mood of the late-night slow jam.
Outside of music, Fatehi recently made her debut at Paris Fashion Week 2024. She attended the Louis Vuitton show, dressed head to toe in LV, appearing alongside stars like Zendaya and Blackpink’s Lisa. Fatehi also showed up to party at the All That Glitters Diwali Ball in New York, where she co-hosted and performed.
Up next, Fatehi will star in a new music video with hitmaker Jason Derulo, plus act in the Telugu period movie Matka, alongside actor Varun Tej, which will release on Nov. 14, 2024.
