Colde Ponders Over a Broken Heart in ‘When Dawn Comes Again’
The South Korean singer-songwriter joins forces with EXO’s Baekhyun on the melancholy new track
After a series of singles and his third EP, Idealism, Colde deviates from the omnipresent summer love theme, exploring sleepless nights and heartaches in “When Dawn Comes Again.” The track is also a collaboration with EXO member Baekhyun–Colde had previously written the track “Diamond” for Baekhyun’s his 2019 debut EP, City Lights.
Written, composed and arranged by Colde, the music video features actor Nam Yoon Su running through the empty streets of Seoul. The blue-tint cinematography instills a feeling of restlessness and isolation with Nam looking pensive as he waits for dawn to arrive.
Mirroring the melancholic lyrics, Colde builds the foundation of the track on lo-fi R&B as he sings, “I can’t replace the ‘me’ from that day with another day/ In other words/ I can’t find the ‘me’ from that day.” Baekhyun elevates the mood of the track with his dulcet, velvety vocals as he navigates through the task of piecing life back together after the end of a relationship, “One day, it just came to my mind/ I thought of you during that day/ How do I live?/ You tell me how, but I can’t do it.”
The track ends with Nam lounging on a parking lot with the early morning rays of the sun illuminating the scene. Colde and Baekhyun blend their vocals against the light strumming of an acoustic guitar, concluding the track on a hopeful note.
Earlier in January this year, Colde made his highly-anticipated comeback with his third EP, Idealism lead by the title track “The Museum.” Baekhyun, who is currently serving his mandatory military service, was last seen participating in EXO’s special album, Don’t Fight The Feeling, commemorating the group’s ninth anniversary and also dropped his solo EP Bambi in March.
