The highly-anticipated release will be followed by a documentary, two remixes and an official music video
Wrapping up September on high spirits, Coldplay and BTS combine their artistry on the highly-anticipated collaborative single, “My Universe.”
Co-written by Coldplay alongside BTS rappers RM, SUGA and j-hope, the synth-pop track is the second single off Coldplay’s forthcoming studio album, Music Of The Spheres and shares the tale of two lovers defying all odds to stay together; “Darkness used to be more comfortable for me/ In the long shadow (eyes)/ And they said that we can’t be together/ Because, because we come from different sides.” Coldplay originally wrote the track for BTS, but later changed things around to include the South Korean septet in the song’s writing process.
The official lyrical video mirrors the album’s inter-dimensional theme, showing a pitch-black sky dotted with stars. Utilizing handwritten stylized fonts in vibrant colors, the lyrics appear on the screen alongside space-inspired doodles, creating an immersive viewing experience. Sung in both Korean and English, the track features a Korean rap by BTS’ SUGA and j-hope, attesting to both Coldplay and BTS’ commitment to overcoming the language barrier with their artistry. Right before the song wraps up, Coldplay introduce a powerful electro-dance outro with a dynamic statement promoting unity; ‘We Are Allone In The Universe.’ Rather than viewing ourselves as alone in the vast universe, the groups challenge our perspective, asking us to see each other as equals united by love.
The “My Universe” lyrical video is the first release of a four-part series. This will shortly be followed by the premiere of the documentary, Inside My Universe on September 26th at 5:30 PM IST and two new versions of the track: a ‘Supernova 7’ remix and an acoustic version on September 27th at 4:30 AM IST. The collaborative journey will conclude with an official music video–the dates of which are yet to be revealed.
