The pop superstars unite to fight a space war in the official video for their recent collaborative project
Pop superstars Coldplay and BTS rebel to make their music heard in the official video for their first-ever collaborative single, “My Universe.” The track first dropped on September 24th and is part of Coldplay’s latest LP, Music Of The Spheres.
Directed by Dave Meyers, the cinematic music video follows a dystopic storyline where music is banned across the universe. Determined to defy ‘The Silencers,’ three bands (Coldplay, BTS and Supernova) residing on different planets come together, expressing themselves through their unique sounds. United by DJ Lafrique on her radio ship, the three groups appear on each other’s planets through holobands (holographic versions of themselves.)
Right before the music video begins, viewers are greeted with a montage of exclusive behind-the-scenes photographs of the groups on the “My Universe” set. Placed neatly between holographic cutouts, this countdown was different from the standard YouTube countdowns viewers have been accustomed to.
Notably, the music video references various superhero franchises, such as the “My Universe” poster, which closely resembles the Avengers: Infinity War poster. Other cinematic shoutouts include The Silencers’ warcraft resembling the mobile space station Death Star from Star Wars.
“My Universe” music videos conclude the four-part release project. Previous releases under the collaborative project include the lyric video, two remixes (Supernova 7 remix and Acoustic version) and Inside ‘My Universe’- a documentary following the making of the track.
