Composer Rohan Puntambekar Celebrates the Monsoon with Latest Single ‘Baarish’

The joyful song features Mumbai vocalist Aisha Sayed

Over the past seven years, Mumbai-based composer Rohan Puntambekar has been heavily involved in the film music industry working alongside fellow composers such as Ram Sampath, Amit Trivedi, Swanand Kirkire, Chinar-Mahesh and more. “Ram Sampath sir has been my greatest mentor and influence in the industry,” says Puntambekar. More recently the composer began writing his own material and has put out three singles with his fourth, “Baarish,” out just in the nick of time for the monsoon.

The joyous track celebrates the beauty and joy of the first rains and includes bouncy keyboard work, a delicate acoustic guitar solo, violin parts as well as Mumbai vocalist Aisha Sayed’s mellifluous melodies. Although Puntambekar initially began wrote a rough draft of the song two years ago, he tells us that he wasn’t happy with it at the time. He says, “My father helped me structure the song properly.” The entire track was recorded at Mumbai’s Seven Sounds Productions and mastered by Puntambekar and Ashwin Raman.

While in lockdown, the composer-producer has been honing his skills and soaking in as much knowledge as he can by watching tutorial videos and attending webinars online. Next, he’s got a Sufi leaning track coming out soon. “It will be released in the month of September which is also a month when the great Sufi poet Rumi was born. This will be my ode to him.”
