After successfully completing four years, organizers Himanshu Vaswani [from the events team at music instrument store Bajaao], Rishu Singh [head of independent label Ennui.Bomb] and Nikhil Udupa [marketing team member at the recently-launched TV channel Pepsi MTV Indies] decided to target the metal audience.

In September last year, organizers of annual crowdfunded gig series Control Alt Delete announced they would start a metal edition. The core idea behind organizing the gigs independently remains. “Just the genre changes,” says one of the organizers of the event, Himanshu Vaswani, “A metal audience is a little more difficult when it comes to accepting the idea of Control Alt Delete, but the bands are helping us get the right message out.”

Control Alt Delete ”“ The Metal Chapter, which takes place on June 1st, includes performances by thrash/groove metal band Zygnema, Pune experimental metal band Noiseware, death grind band Gutslit, Delhi technical/groove metal band Undying Inc, death metal band Reptilian Death, groove metal band Providence, death/thrash metal band Devoid and Delhi hardcore band Grammy Winning Effort.

The team behind the event including Vaswani, Rishu Singh, founder of independent music label ENNUI.BOMB and marketing professional Nikhil Udupa, who works with the recently launched Pepsi MTV Indies, plans to set up their own crowdfunding domain to raise atleast Rs 2.5 lakhs to organize the metal edition. Says Udupa, “I want to shed that ”˜charity’ tag that Control Alt Delete invariably gets. This gig is an honest attempt to establish a business model for gigs, promoters and bands.”

Among the eight bands, one of the most awaited is Undying Inc, who will perform their first gig in Mumbai since 2011. Bassist Reuben Bhattacharya says his band is part of the gig because they believe crowdfunding is a fresh approach compared to the norm of fully sponsored gigs which take place in Delhi. Says Bhattacharya, “It will generate an honest relation between fans and the bands. The fans know the value of this lineup.” Undying Inc plan to launch their long overdue four-track EP Ironclad at Control Alt Delete ”“ The Metal Chapter. Taking a page from the organizers, Ironclad will be released online for a pay-what-you-want download. Says Bhattacharya, “We’ll also be playing all four tracks from the EP at the gig, and a few good old ones like ”˜Contagion,’ ”˜Xenophobe’ and ”˜Manimal’.”
