Rap group Bombay Bassment, Delhi noise rockers Hoirong and Bengaluru post rock band Until We Last are among the eight bands set to perform at the crowdfunded gig series in Mumbai in September
Even before the buzz around the Metal Chapter of bi-annual crowdfunded series Control Alt Delete managed to subside, the sixth, un-metal edition of the show has been announced for September, with crowdfunding already underway.
Slated to take place at Blue Frog, Mumbai on September 14th, Control Alt Delete 6.0 will include performances by rap group Bombay Bassment, Kolkata pop rock band Ganesh Talkies, Bengaluru post-rock bands Space Behind the Yellow Room [SBTYR] and Until We Last, Pune rock band I Am Bliss, Mumbai alt rock band Spud In The Box, Delhi noise rock act Hoirong and post-punk band The Vinyl Records, who are also based out of the capital.
With an aim to raise Rs 2.5 lakh, crowdfunding for the sixth edition is already under way, with contributor rewards ranging from entry to gigs, posters and T-shirts to a copy of the eighth edition of indie compilation Stupiditties 8 My Mind. In addition to the compilation, several other albums will be available at the gig. While Until We Last released their debut EP Earthgazing earlier this month, their peers in Space Behind the Yellow Room and Ganesh Talkies are releasing full-length albums at the gig. Says SBTYR drummer-vocalist Shoumik Biswas, “I’d come for the metal edition in June and it was a really good scene. What’s amazing is that it [a crowdfunded gig] is working when there’s no issues with a sound setup and no compromise.” Biswas adds that his band will release their as yet untitled album at the gig, and perform songs such as “Outburst of Acceptance” and newer material, including an upcoming, non-album single called “Don’t Come In.” Says Biswas about the new track, “It’s a little lighter, in a way, compared to our other material.”
Ganesh Talkies are also readying their debut full-length album, In Technicolor, for release at the gig. Vocalist Suyasha Sengupta says the band will perform In Technicolor, which originally started out as an EP last year, in its entirety at Control Alt Delete, including a reworked version of “Disco Days,” new ballads and premiere the song “Fight Club.” Says Sengupta, “It’s probably the angriest song I’ve written.” The gig will also be the first without keyboardist Nabarun Bose, who recently left the band to concentrate on other projects. Says Sengupta, “He’s been busy with other projects. Instead of a keyboard, we’re going to use a laptop now.” The vocalist adds that Bose, however, has contributed to the album. Although a bit “petrified” about playing new songs with a new sound setup, Sengupta says she’s excited about finally playing a crowdfunded gig and is looking forward to catch Bombay Bassment and Hoirong in particular, along with Spud In The Box and SBTYR, who last performed on the same stage in August in Mumbai, as part of band competition Converse Rubber Tracks Live.
