Corner Café Chronicles Usher in a Heavy Sound with New Single ‘Homebound’

The song is the Mumbai band’s first piece of music since 2021

On their 2020 six-track debut album Renaissance, Mumbai band Corner Café Chronicles presented an electro-psych-rock sound that was quite unique and served the record well. But since then, the band has altered their sound to a more aggressive rock one, which we first heard on their 2021 single “DIY GENERATION.”

Now, the band have continued with that approach on their latest single, the dynamic “Homebound,” which was released today and has been four years in the making. Although the new song does include a hint of their old sound at the beginning with delayed vocals and synths, overall, it brings forth a fresh approach with heavy guitar riffs, pulsating drum grooves, soaring vocals, a trippy outro solo and more.

These days Corner Café Chronicles consists of founding member vocalist-guitarist/synth player Chinmay Patkar, bassist Soumitra Vichare as well as new additions who include guitarist Rounak Chawla and drummer Yash Khona. However, the new single features contributions from the band’s previous members, drummer Parth Malhotra and guitarist Swanand Thakur.

Talking about their latest track, Patkar says, “’Homebound’ addresses the fundamental anxiety-provoking question that wears down every artist in their lifetime: ‘Who are we in this vast collection of noise?’ The song dives into the mind of an artist as they question their place, only to learn to appreciate themselves in order to continue doing what they love the most.”

The band have also gone all-out for the new song’s artwork. The group collaborated with Florence-based designer Meghana Kiran and sourced her outfits to create a vibrant and colorful image to accompany the song, which was shot by photographer Siddharth Dugha. The group plan to work with more multi-disciplinary artists for future releases too. Corner Café Chronicles are also working with non-crypto-based NFT (non-fungible token) marketplace Immutly to create four NFTs, the revenue for which will be distributed amongst those who have contributed towards the NFTs.

Both “DIY GENERATION” and the just-released “Homebound” are also set to feature on the band’s upcoming sophomore album, Renaissance II.
