Hear New Delhi Metallers The Cosmic Truth’s Damning New Song ‘Not In My Name’

The band are pensive and angry in equal parts on their first release since 2017's 'Stroboscopic Illusion' EP

It’s been about three years since New Delhi metal band The Cosmic Truth released music and in between, vocalist Jayant Bhadula and guitarist-producer Sahil Sharma have been going full speed ahead with folk-metallers Bloodywood‘s steady climb to global recognition.

Bhadula brings an entirely different vocal range compared to Bloodywood on their latest, a socio-politically charged reminder about the power of dissent, called “Not In My Name.” While Sharma is sound engineer for Bloodywood, he’s squarely charged up buzz-saw riffs alongside bassist Sahil Dhingra and drummer Siddhant Boruah with The Cosmic Truth. Sharma says about the song, “We talk about the plight of our generation who grew up in a very healthy cultural atmosphere and never gave much thought to the superficial differences that the current political regime has created for its own benefits.”

With the song finding a starting point in March, The Cosmic Truth used their time in lockdown to regroup — albeit virtually — to write “Not In My Name.” The guitarist adds, “The video was shot DIY in a day and I had a few friends help me with some footage they shot at protest sites. I took a retreat to the hills for a couple weeks where I edited this one.”

While their 2017 debut EP Stroboscopic Illusion was an all-out djent fest, Sharma says the next material that The Cosmic Truth are working on is “moving in a different direction.” He adds, “I think it’s safe to say we’ve woken up and a lot more music is expected to come from us. We’re experimenting with cinematic elements in our music and it’s interesting.”
