MCU antiheroes Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, John Walker, Taskmaster, and Bucky Barnes join forces
Marvel premiered a special look trailer for Thunderbolts* at the first Brazil D23 fan event on Saturday. The event featured an appearance from David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian in the film.
The new extended clip opens on the Red Guardian, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmasker (Olga Kurylenko) speeding down a road in a Red Guardian limousine while being chased by a convoy. A gunfight ensues, before the convoy is taken out by Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).
Though it appears Bucky has come to their rescue, he then shoots their limo. “That’s not good,” Yelena deadpans.
They then meet up at Stark Tower, where they’re greeted by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who remarks that “the place wasn’t cheap, but it’s got good optics.” She adds: “Look at you. You are all so adorable.” She’s told to “eat shit” by Belova.
When they aren’t busy attacking each other in the clip, or trying to figure out who Bob (Lewis Pullman) is, they work together on dangerous missions for the government. As for how they apparently got their team’s name: Later in the trailer, Red Guardian screams, “We are the Thunderbolts!” His teammates protest: “We can’t call ourselves that.”
“The Thunderbolts,” Red Guardian repeats. “It’s a cool name.”
The Jake Schreier-directed Thunderbolts* is set to arrive in theaters on May 2. On Saturday at the Brazil D23 fan event, Marvel also debuted the official trailer for Captain America: Brave New World.
