‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Teaser Has People Arguing If These Legs Belong to Taylor Swift or Blake Lively
Lady Deadpool will feature in upcoming Marvel movie, but who’s behind the mask?
TODAY FOR SOME reason marks “Best Friends Day,” which gave Ryan Reynolds a good enough excuse to post the latest teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine. While the minute-long clip offers up more footage of Dogpool and the villain’s Giant Man hideaway, it’s a pair of legs — and which famous person they’re attached to — that has Marvel fans arguing on social media.
The new teaser confirms that the character of Lady Deadpool — a multiverse variant of Reynolds’ antihero — is in the new movie by showing the legs of her suit, but it’s who’s behind the mask that has people speculating: A large swath of the people who comment on these type of things believe the role will be filled by Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively, while an equally substantial portion of the fanbase think the legs belong to Taylor Swift, known buddy of Lively and Reynolds.
“I hope everyone gets to work with their best friend at least once in their lifetime,” Reynolds added in the video’s caption, further stoking speculation. “I know I can’t wait to finally do it.”
Swift has long been rumored to be participating in Deadpool & Wolverine in some capacity, with the initial thinking that she would finally portray the X-Men character of Dazzler, a superhero who moonlights as a pop singer, on the big screen. Swift-as-Dazzler rumors date back to 2015, when she posed with the producer and cast of X-Men: Apocalypse.
As the very meta Deadpool & Wolverine is reviving dozens of the obscure characters from the many X-Men movies and their offshoots — as well as ushering the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general — people speculated that Swift would finally appear as Dazzler. Cameras even caught Swift hanging out with Reynolds, Lively, Hugh Jackman and the film’s director Shawn Levy at a Kansas City Chiefs game against the New York Jets in October.
(People also shares the startling detail that Jackman and Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine announcement video was filmed in the same house as Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” video.)
Reynolds didn’t exactly dismiss the rumors when asked about Swift appearing in the film, saying, “Movies like this, there’s so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film. I saw one that was convinced Elvis was in the movie. Anything can happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.”
However, a pair of legs in a minute-long teaser has people wondering if Swift is maybe Lady Deadpool and not Dazzler. Moviegoers will find out if it’s Lively, Swift, or someone else entirely when Deadpool & Wolverine arrives June 26.
