It’s been a fantastic week for Indians who made their mark on the international music scene. On February 9th, minimal electro producer Ashvin Mani Sharma aka Calm Chor had reason to celebrate when his EP Dance Floor Sci-Fi made it to No 3 on the Minimal Top 100 Charts on Beatport.

Finding a top spot on Beatport, widely regarded as the bible of electronica, was an unexpected turn of events says Sharma. The producer, who also co-founded an independent label for electronica, SoupHerb Records says of his Beatport feat,”This shows that people are appreciating the music. This is also good for our label SoupHerbRecords, as at the end of the day, we are also a business.”

Calm Chor has been touring around the world, especially Germany and playing at festivals like Fusion fest, ADE, Sisyphos, Golden Gate, Chalet, Paradiso and many more. In 2014, he also played at the Burning Man festival, in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, USA. “Ash and I were playing a set on a moving car that was going around the festival and people were following us. It was really cool and we had a great time” remembers Sharma.

Under his label Soupherb Records, Sharma will be launching artists like Karan Desai Aka Folic State from Mumbai and Ajmal from Chennai. Adds Sharma, “We try doing one release every 30- 40 days and be as regular as possible. I feel India has the most talented producers in the world. They are dedicated and passionate about music. I play a lot of music by Indian producers when I am outside the country and people simply love it!”

Sharma also has a new project coming up with former Jalebee Cartel partner, Ash Roy called Bit of Both and they will be performing at the India Bike Week 2015, in Goa. They also just finished a live electronica album that will feature collaborations with artists like Anushka Manchanda and Kohra. “It is great to work with different artists. We will be releasing a video in about a month and plan to do a lot of live shows.”
