Dev Makes Music Deals with Breakup Through New Pop Song ‘Band Aid’

The track marks the Mumbai singer-producer’s third release

Growing up, Mumbai artist Dev Modi aka Dev Makes Music picked up the keys, drums, guitar, tabla and even music production. After releasing covers on YouTube and Instagram, he began sharing his own material last year and dropped two singles – “Enigma” and “Hair Tie.” Now, he’s out with his latest track, the pop offering “Band Aid.”

Modi began writing “Band Aid” the morning after a breakup. He says, “I had a lot of things to say and I immediately picked up my acoustic guitar and started singing, ‘You won’t get it right now/ You might blame me for it/ Saying that I didn’t try hard enough.’” With a majority of the song completed during that one session, the artist was still undecided on whether he wanted to go ahead and put it out to the world or not. “It took me months of debating with myself on whether I even wanted to release a track this personal out for everyone to hear.”

“Band Aid” opens as a pop ballad with poignant keys and Modi’s emotive vocals. The song then picks up with sonic embellishments, before the drums kick in towards the end as the track progresses to a much heavier territory. Modi says, “The final product, in my opinion, sounds like a Shawn Mendes song with hints of Olivia Rodrigo and Finneas in the lyrical and sonic aspects.” The artist produced, mixed and mastered the song himself.

With a pop-punk single on the way next as well as collaborations in the works, the singer-producer has plenty on his plate and tells us that he is still discovering his sound as a musician. He says, “I am working on a live-band setup to perform my songs and covers at venues. If everything goes according to schedule, this year will end with four or five more songs as a part of my discography.”
