Devin Townsend Is Making His Way to India This March
The prog veteran tweeted about shows in New Delhi and Mumbai in March
In 2014, Canadian progressive rock and metal artist Devin Townsend told us he and his band were all set to visit India, but things got nixed. Almost exactly four years later, Townsend seems to have finally got his wish to visit and perform in the country.
Townsend took to Twitter to announce that he’s visiting India for a wedding in March, followed by two acoustic shows in New Delhi on March 7th and Mumbai on March 8th. He confirmed in another tweet that he would perform at intimate venues such as the Piano Man Jazz Club in New Delhi and Levi’s Lounge in Mumbai. Addressing a question about how much demand he would have in India, Townsend tweeted, “Not big at all I wouldn’t think… but the shows pay for my flight and I’d like to go.”
Townsend, who started out as a guitarist for rock guitarist Steve Vai, has had a prolific career releasing over 20 albums that cover everything from prog metal and extreme metal to electronica and country. It’s his work with metal band Strapping Young Lad and his solo projÂect that gained him fans worldwide. Although The Devin Townsend Project was his main focus, he announced earlier this year that the band was on a break, but new material would continue.
Knowing India’s continued interest yet struggle to bring down international metal artists, it seems like Townsend’s India debut is a good break, with the promise of an acoustic performance increasing the specialness of it all.
