This month, Mumbai thrash/death metal band Devoid joins Delhi black metal band 1833 AD on the RSMA 2013 lineup. Devoid vocalist Arun Iyer hopes that the performance will give them a chance to play to a newer audience. The band, which formed in 2005, released their debut full-length album, A God’s Lie in 2010 and picked up six nominations at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2011. Now, with their new EP The Invasion out earlier this year, Devoid notch up their name at this year’s awards as well.

After the album release, lead guitarist Keshav Kumar left for the UK in 2011 and bassist and founding member Frank Pawar, who is now part of the hardcore punk band The Riot Peddlers, left in 2012.  “People should come say hi to us, we all look different now, and we even have new people [guitarist Sanju Aguiar and bassist Abhishek Kamdar] so we’ll probably wear name tags,” jokes Iyer, who adds that the band will play songs from A God’s Lie as well as a couple of songs from their new EP.

The members of the band have also been regular attendees of the Rolling Stone Metal Awards annually. Says Iyer, “There isn’t any pressure [of winning] because RSMA is just one giant party with a lot of the old scene crowd ”“ to play to them is quite a kick.”

Devoid and 1833 AD perform at the Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2013 on June 23rd, 2013 at Blue Frog, Mumbai. Entry Rs 250. Event details here.
