On the weekend of November 4th to 6th, camping gig series LETS Unplug will head to the lush Atali Ganga in Rishikesh. The event will include performances by New Delhi musicians – singer-songwriter Dhruv Visvanath as well as vocalist Aditi Sharma and guitarist Mayank Lawrence (both from alt-rockers Salt Rock).
LETS Unlug is part of Inme Learning Pvt. Ltd, which is an outdoor education company established in 1996. Abhiroop Paul, Program Executive at LETS Unplug and Marketing and Brand Manager of Inme-Youreka, says, “For all these years, the company has avoided the tourism space, however, the pandemic made that no longer viable. This led to the company’s tourism vertical: LETS Camps. The idea was to utilize our beautiful campsites as nature getaways for tourists.”
In this interview with Rolling Stone India, Paul talks to us about how they go about programming the musicians for their events, what folks can expect from the upcoming one and what’s in store in the future. Read below:
What can people expect from one of your events?
People can expect two lovely performances by the musicians in an up-close-and-personal setting, without the hard audience-performer barrier that often exists in concerts. The first of them is meant to be more like a jam around a campfire, so rather than purely being listeners, the audience can also join in the joy of singing along. Apart from this, since the artists will be staying for the whole weekend just as if they are part of a group vacation, there is plenty of time for conversations between the guests and artists, and an opportunity to connect at a deep level. So, in a way, it can be considered a mix of a concert, and a workshop or clinic spread over a weekend.
Another thing to note is that we seek to provide a platform for talented young musicians, and often our clientele is from an older generation. So, they also get to discover new artists and the brilliant music they are creating.
How did you go about programming the lineup of artists for the upcoming event?
We created a database of musicians and sent a number of them a pitch about our concept. Dhruv Visvanath and Aditi Sharma [from Salt Rock] were among the ones who loved our concept, and they met our needs for a good mix of styles. We wanted musicians from genres that are similar enough to appeal to a common audience but at the same time different enough in order to have some contrast. We also had in our mind the idea of one headliner, which for the upcoming event is Dhruv, and an opening act, Aditi and Mayank.
Apart from the music, what else is on offer for the attendees?
There are of course the activities that we have a lot of experience providing. These include things like rock climbing, rope courses, archery, rifle shooting, and more. They vary from camp to camp, for instance, the highlight activity of the upcoming edition is rafting and kayaking on the Ganges. Outdoor activities like these are proven to be great icebreakers. Activities aside, guests can also go on hikes, explore nearby attractions, or just absorb nature while they’re there.
What are your future plans with the property?
Our vision is to do six events in a year, each at a different campsite and targeting different types of audiences.
