On French artist DJ Snake’s recent wide-ranging India tour in November, DJ Himani Singh was among the DJs on the lineup, opening for the star EDM act in Hyderabad. Singh says the “once in a lifetime opportunity” came via the tour promoters Sunburn, who wanted to promote local talent. “I played a mix of sundowner house beats and transitioned to some disco house to keep the party going,” she says.

Whether it’s spinning Bollywood tunes as DJ Himani at weddings or disco-house under the moniker Hi-Jynx or simply taking over as emcee for concerts and events, Singh confidently says she serves as an entertainer “first and foremost.” She adds, “DJing and emceeing are just expressions of my innate desire to entertain my audience and express my art.”

Within a few years of Bollywood and commercial DJing, Singh started performing as Hi-Jynx in order to switch things up for herself. Disco-house, she says, is a style that’s very close to her heart. “I became a fan of disco house as I grew up listening to the likes of Purple Disco Machine, Folamour etc. I love the dark, throwback vibe of the genre the spirit of old school disco. I think Hi-jynx is an embodiment of that,” she says.

Even as emceeing continues to keep Singh in-demand at events, the artist says 2023 is going to be her biggest year yet. She adds, “I am hoping to play across 20 cities in India, and bring my music to clubs, weddings and celebrations alike. I think the next step for me is headlining for a few more international artists, playing in some of the biggest concerts around India and releasing my original music.”
