Mumbai-based DJ/producer Omen completes 10 years in the field this month. What started as a simple fascination with music has evolved into an unstoppable passion for both DJing and music production. With a remarkable decade of experience in the industry, Omen has left an indelible mark on stages spanning India, Dubai, and beyond. Notably, he has had the privilege of sharing the limelight with some of the world’s top international artists, including Armin Van Buuren, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Martin Garrix, Vini Vici, DJ Snake and more. Additionally, he has also worked alongside artists such as AP Dhillon, Vishal-Shekhar, B Praak, Hardy Sandhu, among others.

In this interview with Rolling Stone India, DJ Omen talks to us about how DJing has evolved since he started, his upcoming set of shows, what plans he has going forward and more. Read below.

What were your early years as a DJ like?

I started my DJ journey a decade ago when DJing as a career was just taking off. Back then, it wasn’t as simple as pressing play. Like any emerging career, the initial steps were challenging, with their ups and downs. However, my faith in my craft and relentless hard work proved fruitful.

What did it take to make a mark as a DJ over the last decade?

The recognition I’ve garnered today is heartening. I’m known for my distinct musical style and high-energy performances, but this is just the beginning. The journey ahead stretches far and wide, and I’m ready for what’s to come.

How has DJing evolved over the past 10 years?

Over the last decade, DJing has undergone a massive transformation. From ever-evolving music genres to shifts in audience preferences and accessibility to music, the DJing landscape has seen significant changes. With more clubs opening their doors and a surge in concert opportunities, DJs are now receiving the respect they deserve.

Can you explain the differences between DJing at festivals, clubs and weddings?

Versatility is the key for DJs looking to conquer all arenas. I’m one of the fortunate few who find themselves at the crossroads of weddings, clubs, and concerts. The key distinctions lie in the music genres played and the style in which you play it. Weddings are undeniably more hectic and fun, but they can also be a whirlwind of requests, requiring quick and clever thinking.

What advice would you offer aspiring DJs just starting out?

I’d say never lose faith in yourself and don’t give up until you’ve truly given it your all. Hard work is the key to success, so stay the course and maintain your focus. While technology has made things easier, always ensure your fundamentals remain rock solid.

Could you share some insights into your upcoming 10th-anniversary celebration and what attendees can anticipate?

As I reach the remarkable milestone of a decade as a DJ, I’ve decided to celebrate in the three cities that have showered me with boundless love: Mumbai, Pune, and Goa. We’ll kick things off at home base, Mumbai at Dragonfly Experience on October 6th, move to Di Mora in Pune on the 11th, and finally, Hammerzz Nightclub in Goa on the 15th. This celebration is set to be unforgettable, with a musical journey through the best of the past 10 years!

What’s next?

Having successfully performed in nearly every city in India, the world is the next frontier to conquer.
