DJ Premier Announces Release Date For His Album With Nas

The long-awaited project has been discussed since 2006

Nas and DJ Premier’s long-awaited collaboration album is just three weeks away. On Wednesday, DJ Premier revealed during a recent show that the album is dropping on December 12. “How many people are ready for that Nas-Premier album? December 12th, get ready motherfuckers,” he belted, before playing their “Represent” classic from Illmatic. The project will be the last from Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It… series, which has released albums from five other legendary acts: Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L, with De La Soul’s Cabin In The Sky coming tomorrow.

Last April, the two released “Define My Name,” promising that the album, whose name hasn’t been revealed, was “coming soon.” Mass Appeal’s press release for the track also promised a late 2024 release. But instead, the album was rolled into the Legend Has It… series. The date confirmation brings satisfaction to hip-hop heads who have been seeking the long-discussed project. As early as 2006, the frequent collaborators had promised that an album was in the works.

“I can’t wait for people to finally hear it. I don’t know about anybody else, but for me and him, it was personally a long time coming for us to do it,” Nas told Rolling Stone in October. He also said that some of the creative ideas that they’ve previously discussed would be on the upcoming project: “I’m going to say at least two of those ideas happened on this album. We didn’t get a chance to do ’em when we were talking about ’em, but we finally got a chance to put those recordings together this year.”

So far this year, Nas has featured on every Legend Has It… album that’s been released so far, as well as British producer Steel Banglez’ “Times.” DJ Premier has dropped joint projects with Roc Marciano and Ransom, and is currently touring the U.K. and Europe with The Alchemist.
