The multi-lingual Mumbai-based group is one of the earliest hip-hop crews from the country
Mumbai hip-hop crew Dopeadelicz – comprising Tony Sebastian aka Stony Psyko, Rajesh Radhakrishnan aka Dope Daddy and Agnel Avinash aka Ben Z – have gone on to become one of the most prominent hip-hop crews in India. Hailing from Dharavi, Sebastian says of their success, “It’s [been] an unimaginable journey over the years through thick and thin; we can only say that all our hard work has been fruitful. There’s still a lot to deliver and contribute to the community and our fans.”
Since Dopeadelicz have been around for over a decade, how do they view the hip-hop scene in India currently? Sebastian replies, “The hip-hop community is growing tremendously.” He adds, “It amazes us, watching all this fresh new talent coming from different regions of our country apart from the hi-tech cities.”
Last month Dopeadelicz also performed at the Rolling Stone India presents Hennessy Freestyle Concert, a showcase of India’s incredible hip-hop movement. On being part of the lineup, Sebastian says, “It was an unforgettable experience at the concert sharing the stage with all our Mapulz and fellow artists under the same roof.” The rapper adds, “I felt hip-hop is not diversified but it’s unified. Hip-hop mera tera nahi, hip-hop humara hai [hip-hop is not yours or mine, it’s everyone’s].”
With Ben Z now back with Dopeadelicz after a five-year hiatus, the crew tells us that they are currently working on fresh new material while the members are also focusing on solo projects. “We are bringing some new bangers with a new wave,” says Sebastian.
