Drake’s ‘For All the Dogs’ Dominates Album and Song Charts

Drake and For All the Dogs earned one of the most dominant weeks in recent history for Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, with the rapper taking seven of the top 10 slots, Billboard announced on Monday.

The album itself had lukewarm reviews but expectedly topped Billboard’s 200 Albums chart with 400,000 units, and the song “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole topped the songs chart, narrowly beating out Drake’s Yeat collaboration “IDGAF.” “First Person Shooter” gives J. Cole his first ever Number One on the Hot 100.

“Virginia Beach” took third, and Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” fell to four. Drake and 21 Savage took the five spot with “Calling For You,” while “Slime You Out” featuring SZA, which topped the hot 100 last month, came in at six. Drake’s “Daylight” and “Fear of Heights” took eight and 10, respectively. Swift’s “Cruel Summer” fell to nine while SZA’s “Snooze” fell to seven.

For All the Dogs marks Drake’s 13th time to top the album chart. Drake remains one of the streaming era’s biggest superstars, reflected by the half-a-billion streams For All the Dogs opened with this past week, the biggest of 2023 and one of the biggest streaming debuts of all time. The album opened with about 18 million streams more than Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time, this year’s biggest album amid a major year for country music.

At just under 10,000 traditional sales for his latest album, Drake’s strong numbers are fueled almost entirely by streaming. As the X account (formerly known as Twitter) Chart Data noted, four of the top-five streaming debuts of all time are Drake records, with Scorpion coming in first place at 745 million streams, followed by Certified Lover Boy at two, For All the Dogs at four and the 21 Savage collaborative album Her Loss coming at five.

This week isn’t the first time Drake took seven of the top 10, achieving the feat in 2018 with Scorpion. Eight songs rounded out the top 10 with Her Loss. Drake’s personal record was from Certified Lover Boy, which took 9 of the top 10 Hot 100 slots and held the record for most ever until Swift’s Midnights took the entire top-10 last October.

The question now shifts to how Drake and his For All The Dogs tracks will fare next week as Bad Bunny is expected to enjoy a massive debut for his latest album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana. The two both have several songs in the top 10 charts on Apple Music and Spotify and will likely be the strongest contenders for the top of the album chart. “First Person Shooter,” “IDGAF” Bad Bunny’s “Monaco,” “Paint the Town Red,” “Cruel Summer” and Snooze” are all strong contenders for the Hot 100 crown.
