The dance song is Lipa's latest release from her upcoming third album Radical Optimism
Dua Lipa reminds you who she is on the psychedelic-dance single “Illusion.” Her third album Radical Optimism will be released on May 3rd.
Like the album’s previous singles “Houdini” and “Training Season,” “Illusion” is a big, bold dance track tapping into some of the psychedelic and rave influences that inspired her latest LP. On it, she makes it clear she knows what’s real and fake. “Ooh, what you doin’?/Don’t know who you think that you’re confusing/I be like, ‘Ooh, it’s amusing’/You think I’m gonna fall for an illusion,” she sings on the catchy hook. In the video, Lipa and her dancers dance the day away by and in a giant pool with a city skyline in the background.
The scene cuts from the star surrounded by men diving into the pool to Lipa in the water surrounded by a circle of synchronized swimmers as she declares, “I already know your type, think you can play your cards right/Don’t you know I could do this dance all night?”
Lipa first started rolling out her new album in November with the release of “Houdini.” In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, she revealed that Radical Optimism would be a tribute to UK rave culture, culling inspiration from acts like Massive Attack and Primal Scream while she sings about her experience exiting a long-term relationship and being single again.
“I want to capture the essence of youth and freedom and having fun and just letting things happen, whether it’s good or bad,” she explained of the “raw” new album. “You can’t change it. You just have to roll with the punches of whatever’s happening in your life.”
