Ed Sheeran Plays Surprise Set at Boston Pub for St. Patrick’s Day

The singer performed an acoustic set in front of a rowdy crowd at the Dubliner

Ed Sheeran popped up at a Boston Irish pub to perform a surprise acoustic set in front of a celebratory St. Patrick’s Day crowd on Monday night.

The British singer-songwriter was backed by a fiddle and an accordion, in addition to other band members of the Irish folk band Beoga as they performed a melody of his hits, including “Galway Girl,” “Shape of You,” and “Nancy Mulligan.”

“Boston for Paddy’s day with @beogamusic, what a gaff,” Sheeran wrote, accompanied by a video of the spirited set at the packed venue The Dubliner, which had people spilling out onto the street.

Sheeran earlier teased his performance in an Instagram Story, showing off his Boston Celtics shirt and telling his followers it was OK to admit they liked the tune “Galway Girl.”

The Grammy winner has been playing surprise shows around the United States. On Saturday, he popped up in New Orleans with local band Soul Rebels Brass Band for a line parade in the city’s French Quarter.

Ahead of Boston’s gig, Sheeran made a pitstop in Nashville where he donned a pink cowboy hat to sing a rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” alongside friend Jackson Capps at Tootsie’s World Famous Orchid Lounge.
