Ed Sheeran Teams Up with Pokémon GO for In-Game Event
The pop singer-songwriter will perform songs like “Bad Habits,” “Thinking Out Loud” and “Perfect” in a pre-recorded stream available to players of the augmented reality game
As it turns out, Ed Sheeran’s favorite Pokémon is Squirtle and the pop star usually picks Water-type species in the fantasy series’ games. To show how big of a fan he is, Sheeran has teamed up with the augmented reality game Pokémon GO, which launched in 2016 and saw everyone be out and about looking for virtual critters in real-world locations, for a special event that starts tonight.
The collaboration between the singer and Pokémon GO makers Niantic, The Pokémon Company and Warner Music Group will see Sheeran’s music being used in the game, along with themed items like stickers and merchandise like sweatshirts for users’ avatars. The highlight will be a performance video exclusively available to users within Pokémon GO, between November 23rd 12:30 AM IST and December 1st, 2:30 AM IST. He will promote his latest album =, and performances will include songs like “Bad Habits,” “Perfect,” “First Times,” “Shivers” and “Thinking Out Loud”.
Sheeran’s synth-pop tinged new song “Overpass Graffiti” off = will be playing every night in Pokémon GO from November 22nd to November 30th. In addition to the increased availability of a Squirtle wearing sunglasses, Sheeran’s favorite Water-type Pokémon–Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup, Oshawott and Froakie–will also appear frequently in the wild.
