The film arrives on Netflix July 3
In a sneak peek clip for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Eddie Murphy‘s Axel Foley hijacks a helicopter to escape a deadly threat. As Foley and new partner Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) race to the roof, Foley demands that Abbott, a former helicopter pilot, steer the chopper off the platform.
“Faster! Shit, this ain’t Spirit Airlines,” Foley says in the teaser. “Let’s go! Let’s go! This shit is supposed to be like riding a bike! You’re suppose to get right in there and know how to do this shit.”
By the clip’s end, the helicopter takes an unexpected dive, after Foley learns “elite pilot” Abbott crashed his last flight. The latest installment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, marks 40 years since the release of the first film in the series arrived, and three decades since Beverly Hills Cop III.
Back in the Nineties, a fourth installment was announced but never materialized and in the mid-2010s, a movie was planned to shoot in Michigan but was postponed due to a half-baked script. When speaking with Rolling Stone about a potential Beverly Hills Cop IV in 2011, Murphy said, “None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force this premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong.”
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, on the other hand, is finally ready for fans of the franchise. It follows Foley and his daughter Jane (Taylour Paige), whose life is in danger. As the father-daughter duo discover a dangerous conspiracy, they meet up with old friends, Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton).
The film arrives on Netflix July 3.
