Eminem Reveals ‘The Death of Slim Shady’ Release Date With Devilish Horror Trailer

Minute-long video brings a "little baby devil" lyric in "Houdini" to life

With The Death of Slim Shady arrives the birth of a demon child. On Monday, Eminem announced that he’ll release his upcoming LP on July 12 via a minute-long horror trailer.

The video opens with a woman giving birth to a baby. “When I count to three, I need you to push as hard as you can,” says the doctor. After the baby is delivered, the woman holds the child in her arms, saying, “You’re the little bugger that kept kicking me.”

The baby then opens its pitch-black eyes before it grows devil horns and pointy, demon-like teeth. “Holy shit!” the doctor and nurses declare. The trailer then cuts to display the name and release date of The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) in colorful graffiti.

The visual appears to depict the “little baby devil with the forked tongue and it’s stickin’ out” lyric from the LP’s single, “Houdini,” which dropped in late May.

Eminem announced the album in a mock documentary-inspired trailer about his alter ego’s death. “Through his complex and oft-criticized, tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies,” a reporter declared in the clip. He then published a fake obituary in the Detroit Free Press.

“His complex and tortured existence has come to a close, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than the manner in which this character departed this world,” read the obit.

Eminem’s last LP, Music to Be Murdered By, arrived in January 2020. Dr. Dre previously told Jimmy Kimmel, “Eminem is working on his own album, which is coming out this year. I actually talked to him and he said it was okay for me to make that announcement right here on this show. So he has an album coming out, I’ve got songs on it and it’s fire.”
