To celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of the first ever hip hop labels, Def Jam, New York-based online fashion community Vfiles is hosting its first ever DJ Championship, which gives upcoming electronica artists and DJs a chance to perform and record in New York.

Regardless of what genre music you play, the Vfiles DJ Championship invites artists from across the world to upload their mixes along with their photos. Top entries, which are decided based on public voting until August 15th, will be then reviewed by Def Jam founder and executive vice president of A&R, Kyambo Joshua. Three DJs will battle at New York Fashion Week, at the Vfiles Made Fashion afterparty in September. The winner of the DJ battle earns studio time in New York, a guest DJ spot at Def Jam 30’s anniversary party, along with all access to the Def Jam 30 concert at the Barclays Center in New York later this year. The winning DJ also gets all access to Def Jam events during the anniversary year.

To take part, entrants can upload a mix between 10 and 20 minutes in length, along with an original song and album art or artist photos. Entries will be judged by Joshua and the Vfiles team based on technical skill, innovation, and overall sound, along with the number of public votes in the form of ”˜likes’. Entries for the Vfiles DJ Championship are open until August 15th.
