Eric Prydz to Headline VH1 Supersonic 2017

The Swedish EDM superstar is set to make his India debut at the festival

In a move that has fans across social media stunned, Viacom18’s Vh1 Supersonic has announced that their headliner for the 2017 edition will be Swedish producer and DJ Eric Prydz. The news comes as a surprise due to Prydz’s strong aversion to flying, leaving many fans to presume they would never see an India visit. According to popular DJ/Supersonic curator Nikhil Chinapa, the hard task of convincing Prydz to make his India debut was definitely worth it. “Eric’s been an artist we’ve been trying to bring to India forever,” said Chinapa in a statement. “I’ve heard him several times in different continents and I can truly say, there is nobody like him in all of electronic music’s landscape. With this booking and after all these years, it feels like my work in electronic music is complete”

Prydz initially shot to fame thanks to the insanely viral 2004 track “Call On Me” and is credited with the creation of the “Pryda Snare” ”“ a production technique that has been used by other EDM biggies like Martin Garrix, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and more. His debut studio album Opus which released in February this year made waves with its refreshing use of power-packed, Eighties-esque synth.

Prydz’s India debut will also likely aid Supersonic’s recent relocation from Goa to Pune; while initially there was protest online about the move, fans are now gearing up to travel from all across India and nearby countries in Asia for a rare chance to see Prydz live. “It has been a virtual coup for us at Vh1 Supersonic to bring Eric to India,” said Saugato Bhowmik, Head, LIVE Viacom18 and Consumer Products. “I can assure our Superfans that it does not get any bigger than this in the international dance music scene.”
