Everything We Know About Dreamcatcher’s Forthcoming EP ‘Apocalypse: Follow Us’

The group is all set to return with new music accompanied by a fresh concept next month

Sep 26, 2022

Fresh off their historic performance at 2022 Primavera Sound Barcelona and a successful North American tour, Dreamcatcher have unveiled a look into the road leading up to the release of their seventh EP Apocalypse: Follow Us. Acting as an extension to the group’s Apocalypse series that kicked off with their sophomore LP Apocalypse: Save Us, the group is all set to unveil new stories and music on October 11th.

Earlier today, the group released an extensive schedule outlining the content fans can expect to be released in the coming weeks. Aside from individual teaser images, group photos and highlight medley, Dreamcatcher Company (DCC) will be releasing a lyrics spoiler, dance preview and, of course, a music video teaser. The official rollout will commence on September 27th with the release of the EP’s tracklist.

While many associate the septet with a ‘mainstream horror’ concept, Dreamcatcher have a unique interpretation of the term, choosing to highlight the horrors within our realities. To understand what we can expect from their upcoming chapter, it’s imperative we get some basics out of the way. The ‘Dreamcatcher lore’ can largely be characterized into three chapters: the Nightmare chapter that narrates the story of seven girls trapped in a nightmare, Dystopia – a social commentary that examines the endless spew of toxicity that plagues our real and digital worlds – and finally the Apocalypse trilogy. While the first chapter of the trilogy underlined the overwhelming disturbance climate change has unleashed upon our planet, the concept of the consequent chapter has created quite some buzz on social media.

Stylized by an overall red-and-black color palette, the comeback schedule houses potential clues fans believe hint towards the group’s forthcoming concept. With an old-school microphone-inspired illustration, and a computerized task folder right underneath it, many fans believe members JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyeon will be taking matters into their hands and leading a revolution to save the planet.

Judging by the design, all hands do point towards the revolutionary-led concept. Take for example the dominantly red color palette. As an emotionally intense color, red often instills emotions such as power, confidence and action. It is also a color that is used to either provoke or draw attention. However, the biggest hint comes from the title itself. The first chapter, Apocalypse: Save Us, was a desperate plea and cry to save the planet from ecological damage and global warming. Now, with Apocalypse: Follow Us, it sure does look like the group is done with seeing their words fall on deaf ears and is encouraging others to follow their lead.

As we wait to unearth more easter eggs from their upcoming promotional content, here’s a quick look into the stories fans think Apocalypse: Follow Us will give rise to.

Dreamcatcher, who were Rolling Stone India’s digital cover stars for the K-Music Special issue, Dami delved deeper into how the group has evolved over the years, saying, “Ever since our debut, I feel that we have been working towards presenting and showing our unique colors and stories through our stories and messages. We always work together on how we can deliver our message and express our music and identity better. We wonder about how we can be more versatile and how we can showcase our identity more.”
