Everything You Need to Know About Rolling Stone India’s Future of Music Campaign

The campaign includes a diverse range of artists from hip-hop to singer-songwriters and everything in between

In 2023, Rolling Stone US launched its Future of Music campaign which honored artists that are shaping the music of tomorrow across multiple genres. Led by Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny that featured on the magazine’s July/August 2023 cover, the list of 25 artists included Memphis MC GloRilla, teen K-pop group NewJeans, singer-songwriter Brittney Spencer and more.  

Now, the Future of Music campaign makes its way to India and showcases the country’s musical diversity and thriving scene as well as 25 of its artists that make it what it is. For Rolling Stone India’s list, the editorial team has carefully selected artists who have been making huge waves within their genres and beyond. 

The first artist on the list and also featured on Rolling Stone India’s April 2024 cover is rapper King, who among his various achievements can also count a collaboration with Nick Jonas on “Maan Meri Jaan (Afterlife)” last year. Malappuram rapper Baby Jean with his distinctive voice and magnetic stage presence, Malabar-bred multi-genre artist Dabzee’s unique slang and slick beats as well as India’s chocolate boy singer-songwriter Anuv Jain join the list. Also, part of the Future of Music campaign is Punjabi music artist tricksingh and hip-hop/trap artist MC Stan. 

Indie-pop representation comes from singer-songwriters Dot., Anoushka Maskey and Taba Chake. Beatmaker and producer Karan Kanchan, musical prodigy/multi-instrumentalist jazz-fusion artist Lydian Nadhaswaram as well as hip-hop/R&B duo RANJ x Clifr also find themselves on this year’s Future of Music list. 

Bass queen Mohini Dey, vocalist Lisa Mishra and DJ/singer Kayan bring their diverse soundscapes to the table too. Hip-hop artists Paal Dabba, Hanumankind, Yashraj, Chaar Diwaari and Dhanji are also part of the campaign. To round of the list is tabla player Ishaan Ghosh, pop-folk artist Anumita Nadesan, Carnatic/Tamil folk artist Anumita Nadesan, Punjabi artist Riar Saab and Hindustani classical violinist Yadnesh Raikar.

With this solid lineup of sonic as well as regional diversity, the Future of Music campaign shines a light heavily on the current sound of the country. 

Rolling Stone India has also partnered with the newly launched ticketing platform – Astrix.
