On their latest (so far the brightest) single, Ferry Tales dabble in a little philosophy by questioning the idea of arriving at one’s ‘true’ destination. Says vocalist Akshay Dakhane of the Mumbai-based pop rock band, “We’re always trying to find home, we’re trying to find peace; but the general idea is that you’re never going to find it. We would never know when to stop, and even if we do get there, would we want to stop?”

As serious as the lyrics may seem, “Home” is a beaming pop ballad with a breezy video to match. Much of the song’s light-heartedness comes from its collaborators–violinist Ajay Jayanthi, vocalist Maanuni Desai and keyboardist Nirmit Shah who build on the sugary sound that Ferry Tales established with their debut EP There She Goes.

“Home,” which began taking shape around six months ago when vocalist Akshay Dakane and bassist Siddhant Vetekar first put together the track, soon changed directions after the four-member band decided to rope in more members. While Jayanthi contributes soulful fills and Shah brings subtle ambience, Desai joins in with pitch-perfect harmonies on the chorus (“Im going where the skies are blue/ I don’t have a clue”). Says drummer Nilay Singh, “In the first jam itself, when Ajay took out his violin, everything just fell into place.”
