In the video for her new single, the rapper embraces Goan sunsets and a gypsy life of a musician always on the road
On her latest single “Busy Living Lands,” Manmeet Kaur aka MC Kaur rejects the constraints of society to embrace a dream lifestyle: traveling across the country, making music and meeting new people. “I wanted to share the intention behind my travel and choosing freedom over patriotism, pride and attachment,” says the rapper about the track which was born of a James Brown sample.
A cross-continental collaboration with French beatboxer Mic Lee, French producer Gringo and Russian videographer Evgeniy Shmel, “Busy Living Lands” also stays true to Kaur’s DIY ethos. “I feel relaxed about the fact that I only work with independent and humble musicians,” she says, explaining that in addition to their diverse backgrounds, them being travelers was a great learning experience.
But those aren’t the only borders “Busy Living Lands” has crossed; the track was recorded at Daksh Studios in Punjab before it was mixed and mastered by Canadian producer DJ Reminisce and finally filmed in Arambol, Goa. The video itself celebrates freedom and a unencumbered way of living life, featuring Kaur’s love for travel, clips of her at some of her favorite spots in Goa and a general vibe of taking each day as it comes.
Not one to be tied down to one place, Kaur is looking forward to more collaborations. “I am working on a few singles with some reggae MCs from Bulgaria and France,” she shares, adding that she will also be teaming up with Anand Viankara and Tushar Nair of New Delhi band Smooth Relax later this year.
