Exclusive Premiere: Beastial Murder’s Wiry Comeback ‘Dark Matter’ with The Faceless Vocalist Julian Kersey

The Kochi tech metallers have released their first song since ‘Sorbere Bestia Intra’ EP in 2015

It might have been about six years since we heard any new material from Kochi metal band Beastial Murder, but they’re coming back strong with their latest single “Dark Matter.” The track is led by the visceral death metal growls of American vocalist Julian Kersey, best known for his work with American tech-death metal heavyweights The Faceless.

Created in mid-2019 and in the works for nearly two years, “Dark Matter” follows their 2015 debut EP Sorbere Bestia Intra. Currently comprising drummer Vivek Kanavillil, guitarist Chris Paul and bassist Nikhil Dominic, Kersey’s vocals lead the way as Beastial Murder stomp back into top form on the new track.

Beastial Murder count The Faceless as one of the artists they look up to, with all members getting into the tech-death band at the same time. They naturally gravitated towards asking Kersey to guest as vocalist, which he agreed to. The growler says about his involvement, “Usually give the song that I’m given many listens to feel it out and see if I vibe with it before I give it the OK to start working. Which is what I did with this song. Also I had some video chats with their very own Vivek Kanavillil to further go into the vision of the song. It was a pleasure to work with these guys as they are a super rad band from India and a hardworking band at that.”

Speaking about their absence from the metal scene for a few years, Beastial Murder members simply sum up to say that “life happened” and they also ended up parting ways with their vocalist Rahul Raj, while Kanavillil moved out of India for professional commitments. “However we never stopped writing music completely,” the band says.

While the track was mixed by Kerala producer Vivek Thomas, “Dark Matter” also comes with a new T-shirt and artwork made by visual artist Collin Estrada. The band says if it were possible, they would have played at least a couple of shows to promote the single but they’re sticking to doing what they can. “We will continue to write for our full length for the rest of 2021, as all three of us are super focused in getting this churned out to the world and we are aiming to get into the studio to track the full length in the first half of 2022,” the band adds.
