Exclusive Premiere: Bengaluru Metallers Cheisrah’s Harrowing ‘Muddy Daddy’

At one of their rare club shows earlier this year, Bengaluru metal act Cheisrah’s frontman Imon Talukdar seemed to be doing some dark comedy bits before they kicked into their song “Muddy Daddy.” He introduced the song, saying, “How many of you guys like smoking weed? This song is about child abuse.”

The vocalist recalls with a laugh, “On stage, I like to experiment with the crowd’s reaction and try to keep them entertained. Sometimes it’s spot on and sometimes it’s a hall-of-fame face-palm moment. I guess this was somewhere in between.”

What matters is what comes after the guitars kick in, and “Muddy Daddy,” which was ready by December last year and recorded at Eleven Gauge Recordings studio in February this year, is a marked jump from the prog/metalcore sound of Deafbreed to a chunkier sound, complete with screeching solos and punishing drums. Talukdar adds, “We all sat down and decided that we’re just going to create songs that we can have fun with, be it in jams, stage or studio. I think this is our most personal and hard-hitting song so far.”

Regarding the topic of physical abuse, the vocalist says he wanted to write “something that people would feel uncomfortable reading or even thinking about.” The video features the band performing, interspersed with a survivor who moves from shame to catharsis to rage.

The band, which also comprises drummer Amarjeet Singha, guitarists Siddharth Chakravarty and Amit Debnath and bassist Aamir Rizvi, will launch the single with a Bengaluru show in November.
