Exclusive Premiere: Math Teacher Turned Producer BODMAS Drops New Banger ‘Camel Culture’

Madhya Pradesh-bred producer Jai Singh Ranawat samples Rajasthani folk vocals in his latest tune, approved from EDM giants like Krewella

When he was around 15 years old, Udaipur-based Jai Singh Ranawat used to listen to those trance music on CDs while going over his math homework. It turned math into his favorite subject, so much so that not only did he become a math teacher but also an electronic music producer adopting the moniker BODMAS, when he “decided to bring both the passions together.” He says, “Producing music is very similar to solving math problems, it’s like solving a puzzle.”

Although he’s been making electronic music since 2010, BODMAS’ debut song “Camel Culture” is out this week and it had previously been shared with artists such as EDM duo Krewella and producer Yellow Claw, who gave it their approval pretty quick. It’s not tough to see why, considering the drops and swerves employed by BODMAS come at you like punches that can turn dancefloors topsy-turvy.

With his mother’s side hailing from Rajasthan, BODMAS came across folk singers on one visit during a summer vacation and realized how formative the region’s traditional music was to him. Following four years of different experiments in electronic music, the producer says he created this blend of folk and electronic. “I want to promote talented and unheard street singers of Rajasthan and promote the culture in a new way. My vision is to make the folk music cool again by presenting into new form,” he says in a statement.

Listen to “Camel Culture” below. The song releases on streaming on April 6th.
