The Chandigarh psych rock band and seasoned filmmaker/photographer Himanshu Khagta trek across the Himalayan range to put together incredible time lapse footage
To provide a visual backdrop to their spacey track “Happy Camper,” Chandigarh’s That Boy Roby headed to the Himalayas with filmmaker and photographer Himanshu Khagta.
Vocalist Sangram Malik says they were certainly far from home when they headed out for a 15-day trip to “capture such exotic locations.” The video for the song, which is about “fireflies and bioluminescence,” includes time lapse footage of places like the Great Himalayan National Park, Spiti, Prashar Lake, Manali and Barot, a small village. “Inputs for these locations were taken from a legendary local mountaineer who says in the upper region of the Himalayas and from Himanshu, as he stays in Himachal Pradesh [and] is always on the move to scout locations like these,” Malik says.
The sights of clouds forming, rolling and disappearing over snowy peaks and starry nights is likely to evoke wonderment at how the video was shot. Khagta says they planned everything while taking the climate into consideration. He adds, “Majorly, the footage that you see was captured between 4 to 7 am in subzero temperatures. So we had a regime of sitting in the car with the heater on for at least 30 minutes before braving the cold. Because of such extreme temperatures, we used to take turns to make our body temperature normal by taking shelter in the car while the time lapses were on.”
“Happy Camper,” taken off That Boy Roby’s debut 2018 album Four Pair of Jeans, comes after their psychedelic video for “T,” and Malik says there’ll be another music video coming out soon. In addition to a show confirmed in New Delhi on June 27th, there’s more recording in store for That Boy Roby. Malik says, “We have our EP which shall be released by this year’s end and have already started working on the second album.”
